CHAFFEY COMPLETES 2022 SEASON WITH FINAL CONFERENCE WIN
It was an "emotional but fun last day of the season," according to Head Coach Andy Smith as he recounted the Panthers' final 2022 game - an 11-4 home win against Barstow.
Troy Holland recorded the first RBI off a first inning single to advance Cole Howarth across the plate. A Howarth single in the 2nd brought Jared Bujanda and Andrew Cordero in - taking the score to 3-1.
In the fourth, Howarth returned to the plate for a single allowing Cordero to cross home again. A series of unfortunate events for the Vikings followed allowing Bujanda to steal home and change the board to 5-1. The 5th brought a Bujanda sac fly followed by a 7th inning triple by Marty Grisso for an RBI. Chaffey led by three, 7-4.
Back-to-back homers by Howarth and Ricky Mejia gave Chaffey four additional runs for the 11-4 win.
Saturday's bullpen rotation included Josh Sandoval, Anthony Barrera, Thomas Cerecedes, Gabriel Alvarado, and Adam Aguirre. Sandoval took the season concluding win, his fourth.
"These days are always a mixed bag of emotion that you can never fully prepare for. Saying goodbye to our sophomores that have been so instrumental to our season and to look back on their growth has been special. It was great to see Cole and Ricky end their careers at Chaffey with home runs, and especially cool to see Alex Cummings end his career here with throwing a runner out at 2nd. You just appreciate those kind of moments in these games a little extra."
