SOPHOMORES SHINE AGAINST LONG BEACH
After almost two years off the field and a changes of coaches, the freshman heavy Panthers are struggling to find their competitive rhythm but a small staff of sophomores are attempting to make their mark. Returners Xavier Brayboy, Almani Bishop, and Cinque Jones led the Panthers Saturday night as they tried to overcome a fast moving Long Beach Vikings team. By halftime, Long Beach lead 21-10 and closed out the 2nd half with an additional 10 points to seal the win.
Chaffey's first points of the game came off a 34-yard field goal by freshman Jacon Meneses giving Chaffey three on the board in the first quarter of play. Meneses also had three kickoffs including two touchbacks. A 2nd quarter drive by the Panthers closed the gap to 11 points after a series of Kevin Lukasiewicsz passes to Manuel Allen managed to move the ball 50 yards down field and within range of the goal. A final push by Lukasiewicsz to Norbert Espadro gave Chaffey their sole TD of the game.
Returners Brayboy, Bishop, and Jones on defense lead in tackles and returns. Jones had a 53-yard kickoff return while Bishop and Brayboy managed two interceptions impressive return runs. Bishop also had 10 tackles including five solos.
The Panthers are on the road Saturday at Ventura College and will return home Saturday, October 2nd to take on Southwestern College.
