PANTHERS COME ON STRONG IN 2ND HALF TO BEAT RIO HONDO AT HOME
The Panthers played from behind against Rio Hondo tonight but thanks to a strong defensive 2nd half, Chaffey took the lead and defeated the Roadrunners 61-58. At the half, Chaffey trailed 33-26; after the break the tone of the game changed and the Panthers took control going on a 13-3 run. From that point on the game was within 2-4 points until the final buzzer.
Head Coach Jeff Klein reflected on the win: "I was very impressed with how we came out in the 2nd half. Our defensive intensity was outstanding. We also did a great job rebounding the basketball."
Eulysses Foston, Isaiah Barcelo and Jozelle Carter but forward a formidable defense. Carter also led the Panthers with 19 points, 2:2 on threes, was 100% from the FT line, and had 11 rebounds for an overall spectacular game.
With less than a minute left in the game, Isaiah Barcelo got fouled and made 1:2 free throws to take Chaffey into the lead 59-58. With a mere 10 seconds on the clock, Chaffey made a defensive stop as Chaffey rebounded to take control of the ball. Jozelle Carter was fouled and made 2 freethrows with less than 2 seconds on the clock to seal the deal, defeating the Roadrunners 61-58.
