LADY PANTHERS RAISE AWARENESS FOR DOMESTIC VIOLENCE
Panther Volleyball dedicated tonight's game to raising awareness about domestic violence. As part of the No More Campaign, the team hosted an information table in the Sports Center lobby and encouraged fans to wear purple ribbons and make pledge to help end violence in the home. For more information, statistics, or how you can get involved, please visit www.nomore.org.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Domestic Violence is a pattern of behavior used to establish power and control over another person through fear and intimidation, often including the threat or use of violence.
Sexual assault is forced or coerced sexual contact without consent – the presence of a clear yes, not the absence of a no. Sexual assault is a crime motivated by a need to control, humiliate, dominate and harm.
- No level of violence is normal or acceptable in a relationship; a person who resorts to violence once will likely do so again.
- Domestic violence harms children even when the children are not physically abused; many police departments treat domestic violence in the presence of children as a form of child abuse.
- On average, nearly 20 people per minute are physically abused by an intimate partner in the United States.
- 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have been victims of [some form of] physical violence by an intimate partner within their lifetime.
- 1 in 3 teens experience sexual or physical abuse or threats from a boyfriend or girlfriend in one year.
- 1 in 5 women are survivors of rape.
- 1 in 2 women and 1 in 5 men have experienced some form of sexual violence in their lives.
- 1 in 4 women and 1 in 6 men were sexually abused before the age of 18.
